Embarassed Well... I guess I'm in a tight spot with this whole thing... I've never played any of the Valis games, and I've only heard tiny bits and pieces from things like SRS's review (which I hear is pretty accurate Laughing ) and my good friend Zeloz. Now, Can you give me some heads up on where I might be able to play some of these games?

visit Dreamworld, it's a small Valis site with almost all Valis games, built by our hacker friend Silver X happy

In my opinion, I suggest starting with Valis 1 (the Genesis version), although Valis 1 (the PC Engine) is better in terms of graphics, music, and sound effects, but in terms of gameplay, I prefer the genesis version happy

Actually, that title goes to the PC-88 version, but I would advise you avoid this version. Besides, it's on a Japanese PC, which is harder to emulate than a game system. So... yeah. The Genesis version was the first version that sorta mattered... unless you like the Famicom version or something.

there are a couple of versions of Valis before the genesis, but as Zeloz and Soldier said, the genesis version is the first one that really got alot of fans and from this version Valis became popular happy

...PC Engine = Turbografx 16, right? You see, even though I am a fan of the game, I know NOTHING about it. Except that Reiko dies, but um...That's like what, the opening sequence? Funny thing is, I only remember the first two seconds or so of the opening...(the second one, the only one I've ever played...) And I wish I could find a description of each level or whatever so I know how far I got. That is, if I remember... heh-heh It's just been so long... sad eyes I'd also like to know what each game was for. If they're all on the Genisis....I'm lucky...Unless my grandma decides to give THAT to my cousins too! ugh

Well, concerning American releases, we got Valis 1, Valis III, and Valis SD (Known as Syd of Valis in the American release) for the Genesis. There's Valis II and III for the American TurboGraphix-CD, but I would personally avoid them because of the iffy translation (In the American Valis II, the Sword of Valis is sometimes called the "Sword of Vari") and cringe-worthy voice acting. Finally, for the Super Nintendo, we have Super Valis IV, following the events of the resistance warrior Lena, who follows in the footsteps of Yuko as a Fantasm Soldier.

Now, if you're into imports, you might want to check out the Japanese versions of the games I just mentioned for a few reasons (Jap Valis III for the Genesis has a sound test, Jap Super Valis IV has an easy mode, and the American Valis SD not only has an outrageously bad translation, but they renamed the heroine to Syd for no reason and forgot to translate the Game Over screen and Credits). I'd also check out the Japanese exclusive Valis games, like the Remake of Valis I for the TurboGraphix-CD (You'll need a Super CD system card, though) and Valis IV, also for the TurboGraphix-CD (has multiple playable characters, unlike the SNES version). There was also a Famicom Valis game out there, but it plays a bit like Metroid and notoriously hard, I think.

And yes, TurboGraphix-16=PC Engine. In fact, so I won't have to do it later on, I'll list some American systems and their Japanese counterparts, cuz I feel like it.

NES=Famicom
Genesis=Mega Drive
SNES=Super Famicom
Umm... that's all I can think of for now.

Don't forget in American version of Valis III for TurboGrafx, Glames has renamed to Ramses... fear

The big diference on Super Valis IV (SNES/American version) with Super Valis - Akaki Tsuki no Otome ("The maiden from the red moon" I'm not sure if this is the correct traslation... Super Famicom/Japanese version) is the difficult: Japanese version is TOO easy in Hard Mode mean the American version has more difficult, the story in both it's the same, but isn't the same with respect to the original Valis IV for PC-Engine... (well, some parts like the boss and the stages are the same, but... Rena received the Valis Sword from Yuko since the beginning!!!)

I believe it was Super Valis - Akai Tsuki no Otome, which literally translates to "Maiden of the Red Moon." Yeah, you're just about right, SoldierBlade-sempai. And Lena/Rena gets the Valis sword halfway through the TurboGraphix version, but starts with it in the SNES version. Just clarifying...

Of course I had (had...HAD!!! mad) the CD card! Couldn't have played Valis II without it. Were any of them for the Turbo not CD? Sadly, the CD port-thing stopped working, so I couldn't play any of the CD games. (lemme see if I can remember them...Japanese Valis II, Monster Lair, The Addams Family, Jpanese Manhole, Ys something, I can't remember which one, I never played it, um...I think that was it...And the card ones were Splatterhouse, Keith Courage in Alpha Zones, Bonk's Adventure, Dungeon Explorer, Dragon Spirit, some Pacman game, a few sports games, and a game about the kid in a maze who digs holes and the enemies fall in them...Don't remeber the name....)
So I think you might have mentioned the games and whta they're for, but lazy me wants them in the format you did the systems to their counterparts...And as for those, the only one I didn't know was Genesis and Mega Drive. What I don't understand is why change system names? Especially this one...Famicom=family computer, AMERICAN words. Nintendo=....I have no idea. XD
