I give CK Megas a three out of five on the badass villain scale. He talks a big game and does some horrendous stuff in past and present (killing his family and Valia, forcing that mind-control creature on Heizen), but he goes down like a chump in both fights we actually see him partake in, plus he goes down whining. Strong at the start, fades in the stretch due to his late-game behavior mirroring that of a Fist of the North Star one-off filler villain.

3/5 ??!
I give Megas 5/5 Very Happy (if possible more, I would give him more Very Happy)
In this version, Megas's ending sentence is "I'm no-sorry" type, even his last words are just so badass.. and keeps be scared!! fear

Megas: But humans are also capable of hating each other. So neither will Vecanty be destroyed, as long as there are humans in the world. Yuuko, Valis Warrior, when the human world is filled with hate, I shall return to life and have my revenge on you! FORGET ME!!

I totally agree Megas in this version had ZERO remorse after being defeated and even though the final battle was rather---sad (well you have to take into consiteration of the limitation of the software)--- Megas didn't go quietly and who knows maybe he would find a way to recover eventually.

The thing is, we already have Raoh (and his Valis Universe equivalent, Glames), to show us that it's possible to have no remorse and go out in a more dignified manner than whining about how life isn't fair.

As for the hardware limitations, the Sharp X68000 is no slouch of a machine, and has routinely handled arcade-perfect ports of games (Capcom used it as the development platform for Street Fighter II), plus the MSX2 version of the fight was certainly more dynamic (no safe spots), if still fairly easy. There's only one version of a fight with Megas that could even count as challenging, and that's on SD Valis, which was such a cash-in game that they only bothered to use a 4MB cart for it.

Speaking of Glames who was the main ruler of Vecanti other then Rogles and Megas ? This is something I've always wandered.

I don't know, but in the MSX2/Sharp version of the timeline, I like to think that Rogles was just a powerful sorceror who took over the country after the original royal family imploded from Megas (they aren't related in that version). Megas's father goes unnamed in he MSX2/Sharp version, but in the Turbo version Megas and Rogles's father is called King Kaiser.

In the main timeline, i don't know how Glames took the throne, but he had the Leethus, so it's not like anyone could exactly say no. Smile

Well at the end of Valis II (Turbo Duo) Yuko used Leethus during the final battle aginst Megas then after the battle just left it there on Vecanti...some how after that moment Glames got a hold of it somehow, either he stumbled acrossed it or one of his men got it for him...that's my guess.

It's doubtful it was the Leethus- if it was, Yuko wouldn't have needed Cham to tell her what the Leethus was in Valis III. It was just a cosmetic transformation for the Valis sword itself for superdrama purposes (along with leaving it behind) and then forgotten about in later games, much like how the MSX2 version of Valis 2 was almost entirely discarded except for some character names and a couple of basic plot points.

I also would rank Glames above Megas, and Iím not a huge fan of the x68 version of Valis, but someone needs to be the devilís advocate (I guess that makes evilReiko a devil? lol).

I would think that the way the x68 Megas went goes fine with his character in that version. Glames had some class from the outset and his ending fits with that, but Megas was just a blind, raging death machine from the very beginning of Valis II.

In any case, concepts like dignity are relative, and I think when youíre a universally-feared warlord with superpowers theyíre quite irrelevant Twisted Evil

Come on, it's right in the name! Smile

Anyways, I'm not saying it was inconsistent, I'm just saying it affects his performance review. And I'm generally more of a fan of villains whose motivations stem from more than being out of their goddamn mind. As for the X68000 version... Well, I'm kinda obliged to play it now, since I already did the first game (Genesis) for the intertrons.

btw, do you know that Rogles and Megas are NOT brothers in the X68k version? (just in this version)

Here's some info I've extracted from the x68k (for those who haven't read it before.. WARNING contains spoilers, play the x68k version before you read the spoilers):

Well, you speculate right in your post that CKM and Rogles aren't brothers yourself, and Valis isn't exactly a subtle series- if they're brothers, Telenet would tell us (the only time they've ever held off was the reveal about Valia in V2 Turbo). The other bit of evidence is that Rogles was still alive before Yuko killed him, while Zaluga says that CKM killed all of his brothers and familial relations in general. Besides, his bit about the results of Megas's father tackling him into the rift "...so the kingship would remain Megas's forever." means that there weren't any other male royal relatives left alive to properly take the crown.

For my own LP of Valis II x68k, I'll probably use Viddler. Since they don't object to hosting LPs of God of War and Shadow of Rome, it'd be a bit strange for them to object to Valis II. Smile

As we all know, many different versions of Valis II were released (around 4-5) on different platforms.. each has different story and info, but there are few commons between them which were mentioned in the intro of Valis 3

Solid common facts about Valis II:

- New evil emperor appeared named "Megas" (Rogles's Brother or not is skeptical)
- Yuko as Valis warrior fights Megas and defeats him (killed or not is skeptical)
- Valia was killed by Megas
- Yuko returned to humans world after defeating Megas

Lots of skeptical info based on different versions of Valis II:

- Rogles & Megas are brothers.. or not?
- Megas is pure-evil with no-remorse.. or not?
- Yuko is daughter of Valia, and Yuko & Valna are twin sisters.. or not?
- All Rogles army/generals/kingdom were killed/destroyed.. or not?

It may seem hard at first but it gets really easy once you get used to the controls.
