| Hello dear Valis fans! It's so great to see more people around who appreciate this game series - to be honest I 'feared' everyone nearly forgot about it. Since I'm from The Netherlands, I grew up with the MSX system which was very common and popular here in the '80's and '90's. For me, it was love at first sight from the moment I saw Valis II for the MSX2 machine. To this day, it's quite possible my favorite game of all time and if I make it to get 65 of age I'm sure I'll still give the game a run every now and then. I only own MSX machines, but I tracked down some emulators and ROMs of Valis games on other systems. Still on my wishlist to play is Valis II for the TurboGrafx. Fortunately I did at least play Valis 4 on a real SNES. Well, so much for introduction, this message has become long enough, don't you think? I've written complete walkthroughs including passwords for both Valis & Valis II for the MSX system - if anyone'd wish I could direct you to those. I'll open a different topic now because I've some news which I hope you will like. Greetings, John | |

| Welcome to the forum Personally I prefered the X68K of Valis 2 (I dislike a bit the Pc-Engine version cuz' the history haves some differences...) and well, if you play Super Valis Akaki Tsuki no Otome (or simply "Super Valis 4", named outside Japan) you must play the original Valis 4 for PC-Engine | |

| Thanks! That sounds really interesting. I actually enjoy Valis 4 on the SNES, but I've heard (well, read ) on several occasions that it cannot hold a candle to the original on the PC-Engine. The port seems to omit a lot of features (cinematic scenes and the like), so I guess I should try it out for sure! (hm, I wonder why I didn't yet ) Which are good PC-Engine emus? As for X68 emulation, would you recommend "EX68"? Or are you playing on 'the real thing'? On a sidenote, I've always wondered why, regarding Valis II, all the Sega Genesis got was Syd of Valis.. a shame, really. | |

I like Valis IV for the snes but I do wish I could have played the Real Valis IV. However I watched Valis 77 LP on it----it wwwwaaaayyyy different then the snes. Thx. Well, I'll go watch it then, and also try to get it running through emulation. Have you tried playing that one through an emulator? Ofcourse nothing beats running it on a real machine, but I think I'll better forget about trying to get a PC-Engine.

| Same as Valis77, I recommnded MagicEngine for PC-Engine emulation and XM6 for X68K emulation. Super Valis and Valis 4 haves several differences... NO cinemas between stages in Super Valis 4 (the original Valis 4 haves lots of them) You can play as three characters in Valis 4, Rena, Amu (Rena's sister) and Asfar (Gallagher's father) Rena receives the Valis Sword in the middle of the game, not in the beginning just like the SNES version... The PC-Engine version is a bit longer than the SNES version, and you can auto-save your progress too. So... you must check Valis 4 | |

I think we discussed the how-to a little in the Faussetté Amour thread, and provided some relevant links. You might want to look over it. And the mainstream emulators are safe for your computer, don't worry about it.

EDIT: Did you say you have cheat codes for Valis I want them! Hello, thank you for the nice welcome! After reading about it here, the X68k version of Valis II is high on my really-want-to-play list as a game can get. About the first Valis for the MSX, you can find some passwords at the end of this document: Link to GameFAQs pageEntering passwords in this version requires some know-how; you'll have to wait a little while at the intro screen for the game to randomly start showing one of the stage backgrounds. Then, you hit the [ENTER] button, put down the password with the cursor keys (or joystick) and hit ENTER again. I have to be honest with you about Valis (1) for the MSX; it's sort of fun when you get the hang of it but not a highly playable game at all. I only did it thoroughly because of its Valis relevance. There's no storytelling pre-game or in-game, let alone cinemas, and the sound is using the standard MSX PSG only. The scrolling is very choppy and the sprites flicker a lot. Graphics, and especially boss creatures look nice for a 1986 MSX game though. Some info & screenshots here: http://www.generation-msx.nl/msxdb/softwareinfo/860and a little bit of footage here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pmOAVwxAJs

| Well, it was one of the, or even *the* first version of Valis (1) AFAIK. It actually has more than 1 secret stage, but apart from different gfx, a new song and some generic items, there's no reason to go there, actually. The game was designed for the first wave of MSX, the 1983 based machines. It was a home computer (so: not a console) with less good stats/chips/config than even NES 8-bit. This explains ailments as the choppy scrolling. Valis II (for MSX2) is a different story. MSX architecture is ancestral -and still similar- to Sega and Playstation machines. But it was a home computer. On my channel, you can see al (Valis MSX) boss battles here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T69O-z4aSskand final battle/ending credits here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaI-sGqeaB4It's more straight forward than NES version, but can be frustrating at times.
