PostSubject: ...Howdy?   Fri 23 May 2008, 11:29 pm

As you can tell by my name box, I'm gszx1337.

[Mini life story]
I've been playing video games for as long as I can remember. When I was a toddler, we had an NES. The family later got a Mega Drive (the Genesis as we Yanks call it. ;P), eventually the NES was put out of commission and then we got an SNES. Now, my family wasn't rich (or even around middle class) at that time, so I couldn't keep up with all the latest (or as they were back then) games. I pretty much had the essential games (the Marios and the Sonics) but not much else.

In the "not much else" category was a game that I called "that cartoony game." I really couldn't read at that point so I couldn't tell what the hell the title was.

Many years later...

My sister's boyfriend (at the time, told me about emulation and gave me a disk with a whole bunch of (S)NES ROMs. I thought it was cool, but at the time, I still had my SNES (the Genny was sold, and the SNES was put in the closet) so I just played the real games and occasionally played one the NES ROMs.

Fast forward a few years later, I get a hankerin' for some Sega Saturn games. I went onto Google and searched for some SS emulators. Unfortunately, they all sucked. I searched on Google for some way to emulate the Saturn and came across some random forum where one user states that the best way to get Sega Saturn games without getting ganked by collectors was to mod one. The forum had a link to Racketboy's store. I bought a mod chip from there and installed it into a Saturn I bought from eBay. Eventually, I started getting fond memories of retro games, so I joined their forums.

Eventually, I remembered about those emulators that Tim (my sister's boyfriend) told me about and started emulating SNES and Genesis games. I started looking around torrenting sites and came across [ur=http://underground-gamer.com/l]Underground Gamer. I DLed the romsets for the NES, SNES, Sega Master System, and Sega Genesis (I eventually got more, of course)

I played all of my favorites from yesteryear thinking, "Now this is the shit."
But, it bothered me that couldn't play all of my cherished games. I still couldn't find "that cartoony one" because, I didn't know the name. Well, thankfully, I had a (gimped) photographic memory and could tell the title if I saw it. I started browsing through the ROMs and found the Genesis Valis.
I played it and thought "This is similar to 'the cartoony game' but no cigar.
I looked around on the interwebs for some Valis box shots and saw the cover to "the cartoony game." When I saw it, I learned the name of the game, "Syd of Valis."

I (obviously) figured out that the games were in the same series. I started playing the games and decided to research the series a little bit. I came across some Valis sites and some forums posts. From those sites and forums, I learned that the series was obscure, or as others said "underground." I don't know why, but I really like under ground things (I guess because the mainstream sucks so hard) so I gobbled up Valis.

I eventually got bored one day and decided to look on youtube for some Valis videos. It was there that I found the Famicom promo and Valis77's Let's Play videos. I found a url to a Facebook Valis group. From there I found this forum.
[/Mini life story]

I lightly browsed the forums to see what this site has and noticed that these (from what I saw) weren't listed:
Valis 3 original soundrack
[ur=http://www.darkcityproductions.com/duo/valis/l]Unofficial Valis Pages
Valis at Hardcore Gaming
Telenet what might have been
History of: The Valis Series
(I found the last four from Wikipedia, but I didn't see them here)
Valis:
The Downfall of a franchise

I also have the Valis 1 soundtrack. It was originally in .gym (Genesis music) format. I converted them to .wav format. If you all would like, I could upload them onto the server for my site.

Kidding aside, I'm 17 (18 in about two months), Senior in High School, and currently work at a Computer Shop ran by my friend on the weekends. My hobbies are gaming (of course), computer shit (a catchall term I use to describe both the hardware and software sides of computers), and listening to music (mostly Thrash Metal ).My favorite console series are (in no real order) Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario Kart, Ratchet and Clank, and Valis. My favorite series on the PC are Quake, Half-Life, and Doom. I'm a real Sega guy. I've been playing on the Genesis since I was able to hold a controller (hell, if you count my sister holding my controller and I press buttons, then I've playing Sega games since I was born. Razz). I'm kind of touchy on the subject of the shitification of the Sonic the Hedgehog series as Sonic means much to me. Playing Sonic the Hedgehog was my first memory.

Lastly, if I don't post for a while, it's not because I disappeared from the Internet or anything, I'm registered at many forums, so I try to post on all of them.

More like a home away from home. I consider the Racketboy Forums my Internet home.

Hi! I'm Ianna.

I don't really have too much to say about myself, but I'm a Valis fan, into old-school/obscure games, and sort of a newcomer to these boards.

Anyway, welcome!
