| I don't think EvilReiko has access to his PC right now, so I tried to throw together the stuff you need really quickly. Warning: I have NOT played the game much myself so I can't tell you how well this will work! I only tested the first stage awhile back. (EDIT: REMOVED! ) <--- I will take this link down eventually. You also need XPadder if you want to use a controller. If you want to get everything individually you need: The readme, The emulator, The game, The patch, The patcher, XPadderCONTROLS: Number pad - move, the rest is explained in the readme. If it's not working try hitting Num Lock on your number pad and try again. Alternately if you have something assigned to the Number pad (eg, MouseKeys or some other Windows Accessibility feature), that may be the problem. USAGE: Start the emulator, hit FDD0, navigate to the folder which contains the game and select DISC A. Later the game will tell you which drives it wants (Drive 0 - FDD0, Drive 1 - FDD1) and what disc you should select for each drive. Click the drives as directed and select the appropriate disc (DISC A, DISC B, etc.). Other instructions in the readme! PATCHING: you DON'T need to patch the version in the zip file I uploaded. It's already patched. IF for some reason you download the unpatched game, patch DISC A ONLY using MIJET's patching utility (linked above). The process is self-explanatory. XPADDER: Self-explanatory, but if you're stumped search YouTube/Google for tutorials there's plenty of them (or ask, but Google is faster ). In Windows Vista or 7 you need to right-click XPadder before opening and go to Properties > Compatibility and check the box for "Run this program in compatibility mode." Select WINDOWS XP in the dropdown list. Any errors I made, let me know.

| I finally got done with Valis I and loved it and decided to start playing this version of Valis II. I got the emulator and patch to work and just tried out the first stage and just wanted to ask some questions: 1) Is there any way to slide in this game? Because I can't seem to find any way to do it. 2) Is the game suppose to be so fast? I see my fps going at 55-60 which I assume is normal, but the game moves so fast that I often wind up running into enemies and dying but it could just be that I suck that bad. 3) Is there some way to drop off platforms without going off the edges of them? Like the wall of the houses in the beginning when Yuuko's in her PJs. | |

The answers, in order, are- 1.) No. the ability to slide was first implemented in the Genesis version of Valis I, and this is a rather faithful port of a game that came a couple of years before that. 2.) Yes, but the problem I've found isn't so much that the game is fast, but that the "camera" is off-centered, requiring you to move Yuko unfortunately close to the right side of the screen in order to advance the screen in regular stages. 3.) Probably not.

| You mean the game is supposed to be like that? How do you know, though? Have you played it on the original hardware? The readme for the translation patch says this: - Quote :
- Why are some events cut off prematurely? Why are some things too fast?
This game is sensitive to processor speed and even uses the bad practice of busy-wait loops for timing purposes. Therefore it is highly recommended to use a standard 10MHz machine if possible. Also, you should disable "fast floppy" emulation (or enable "FDD Real Speed") as disk loading is used in place of delays in some circumstances, most noticeably in the intro. If the game is really supposed to be like that I have to say that I’m not impressed. At the very least, the game hasn’t aged well at all. The mechanics are broken. I had no patience for the game back when I played it, I just used Cheat Engine to make an invincibility cheat for it and rushed through using that and savestates.

| Does anyone have a link to any gameplay videos of the X68000 version on an emulator? Or maybe someone can upload a video of just the first level, so I can compare whether my emulators speed is normal or not because I'm not sure whether being able to hold forward+attack without anything else to complete the beginning stage, before you get the blazer, is normal and are the slime things supposed to move left and right and then suddenly dash one direction at high speeds and disappear? Also, how the hell am I supposed to kill the first boss? The big red dude, I keep blasting him with my sword bullets but his hp doesn't decrease, I run through him and try attacking his backside and still no damage, the guy doesn't even turn around to face me... | |

This is what I’m talking about. Enemies seem to randomly speed up or disappear, and although that could be programmed behavior it looks very strange. Someone needs to try this on a real Sharp x68 system as opposed to an emulator. - Quote :

He’s not difficult. Just keep jumping and aiming for his head and his HP should start going down after a while. When he extends his arm just stand under it and you won’t get hit. When he walks far enough toward the left he’ll stop moving, so you can literally just hang out under his arm, wait for his shots to pass and then jump and fire at his noggin.

| I just finised this and I think this is the first game I've played in which the path to the boss was a lot harder than the boss itself. Those snails that could shoot as well as those floating shooting boxes were a pain in the butt. The bosses were all pretty easy once you knew which part to hit, I was pretty disappointed at how easy Megas and Heizen could be beaten. Also, it was kinda weird that after only losing two health agaisnt Heizen suddenly cutscene Yuko collapsed and was bleeding alot. Just started Valis III on the genesis and they mentioned that Valna and Yuko are twin sisters? according to Valia's will? Is that scene not in this version of Valis II? What version has it? | |

The Genesis and PCE games are in a completely separate continuity from the MSX/x68/PC-88 games. The true sequel to the Mega Drive and PCE versions of Valis 1 would be the PCE Valis II, not the x68000 Valis II. The fact that Valna and Yuko are sisters is revealed in the PCE version of Valis II, and is a major plot point there. So no, Valna doesn’t appear in the Sharp x68 “version.” The stories of the two versions are pretty different, although a few details and many of the characters are the same.

Probably neither, considering that the franchise has changed hands (Sunsoft now owns the IP) and also considering that the last real Valis games were the cellphone games, which were themselves versions of Valis 1 and 2. Even so, the cellphone games were published by Bandai before Sunsoft got the rights. - Quote :

She does? The one time I finished the game I accidentally fast-forwarded a part of the ending and wasn’t interested enough to go back and watch it again... I didn’t think I skipped anything important

| I played through the pc-engine version and didn't really feel like a new topic was needed for these questions. How did Yuuko get the new armor after she found out she was Valna's sister? Did the people of Vanity give it to her because she's royalty or because its stronger or something? That cutscene when the reveal happened ended really awkwardly. | |
