| I know evilRekio was asked to make this thread, but I figured anyone can do it really.
But anyway, the Sword of Valis has indeed gone through various designs for almost each game. But as iannafei agreed with me, the true Sword of Valis is the thin sword with the golden handle, and blue gem.
But not only has the gem been colored different colors, the sword has been turned into huge broadswords on occasion, how's that for inconsistent? |

| Here's a picture of how big they made the blade once. It's the first cutscene image in the lower left corner. As you can see, the blade is a bit huge. |

taking in mind the sword appearence chronologically, the NES commercial comes first, don't you think so? so initially it was.. black with red gem!

| I'm agreeing with Mega on this one (woah! I've come out of the blue to speak!). I fully believe the canonical Valis Sword is a bastard sword with a blue gem fastened to a golden hilt. Likewise, Leethus is a great sword with a red gem fastened to a golden hilt, the two blades matching in length despite Leethus' other superior dimensions.
If I ever get the money to do so, I hope to one day contract a smith to forge fully functional replicas of both blades. I expect it'll cost quite a penny, but nevertheless I want to do that someday. I also hope to do Reiko's sword, which is similar to Valis except it's completely black/midnight blue and has a red gem.
On that note, I would venture to say that Reiko's was perhaps a "replica" of the Valis sword crafted by a Darkworld smith, if not Rogles himself. I've always wondered why the two looked so similar, along with the fact that Reiko herself donned a suit very similar to Yuko's. Could Reiko have been the wielder of Leethus before it was officially named such? And could that mean that the sword changes form depending upon who wields it?
EDIT: Upon reading the other topic, I'd also like to add that it's possible the gem changes color based on its user's emotions. I noticed in Ianna's collage that it even had a green or clear gem at one point, so it leads me to believe that perhaps the gem changes color based on Yuko's (or Rena's) emotional state. It could also be based on alignment, as the wielder MUST be of a balanced heart of good and evil. If the user begins to lean towards the side of chaos and aggression, the gem may turn red. If the user leans towards the side of order and lawfulness, the gem may turn blue. As for the green/clear, I would presume that it means the user is in true balance - neither chaotic nor lawful, good nor evil. Just something to consider with regards to the sword.

You would not happen to have a picture of the true Sword of Valis on hand, would you? Only to set the record straight so that there is no misunderstandings over your opinion since the picture provided down below really does not give a good indication of your opinion.

I kind of realized that, I mostly posted that picture just to show how inconsistent the blade size and width for the sword is. But here are a few pictures where you can fully see just how the sword should be done. And that is how I picture the sword, and what I use for my fanfic. Course, cut scenes and box art aren't the only things to have gotten the sword jazzed up, sometimes it doesn't look right in the game play! If you recall, Valis77 commented on this in one of his Valis 2 let's plays. And I agree, it didn't look like a sword in that one! |

Words Ahhh, I see. Got to look at Valis I for PC-E and the Valis commerical to see how they depict the sword as well. From the latter along with some fan-art, I recall that she has a buckler of sorts strapped on one arm.

| Valis size in the cover image of Super Valis 4 is normal size just like in the cover of the Valis 3 (it's just that the sword coming towards the camera in the Super Valis 4 cover) I've noticed that, starting from Valis 3 and so on, the Valis sword size and shape became consistent, unlike the previous games (before Valis 3) | |

| In the snes version of Valis IV's Game Manual, on one page the Valis Sword looks like it's twice the size of a Claymore and Lena's barley holding it yet on the next page in the mug shot it's the size of a standard long sword. I'll say this that poor game manual has seen some years , the only thing keeping it together is staples and scotch tape . | |
