| I've just finished the first stage of Valis II (X68000 version).. I have to say.. THIS..GAME... IS... UNBELIEVABLY... GREAT! VALIS.IS.BEST.GAME.EVER! special thanks to: Zeloz for providing us the link Mijet for translating this awesome game and Telenet (ok, not everyone, but at least Renovation for making a sequel to Valis ) Things I learnt so far from the game: - Spoiler:
Cruel King Megas / Lord Megas ~ unbelievably scary, bloodthirst, merciless, hellish king ever! (He killed his siblings, feasted his mother's flesh and drank her blood dry ) Dalis ~ so the little minion / fortune-teller with Megas, so that's his name! Vecanta Cannon ~ used for locating and capturing the soul-like Valia! And one of the most issues resolved: Vecanti / Vecanty = is The Dark World Vanity = is what we call the Dreamland Reality = is the humans world Crux Shield - I'm not sure what it is, but sounds so cool, and I think it's protecting Valia (maybe, somehow? any ideas?) Fantasm Jewelry - embodies the power of Valis Forbidden Door - which keeps Megas sealed in a dimensional rift
Man, I love Valis I must draw a fanart for Cruel King Megas

| Strangely, the first level seems to be the hardest, because your HP is real low and you tend to slide off the platforms. But with practice it's manageable. This game in general strikes a good balance of difficulty. Maybe this weekend I will get around to finishing it. X68000 version is definitely the best version of Valis II.
I wonder if more backstory stuff is explained in Valis I for PC Engine.

| Amazing, Reiko! This is definitely more to take into consideration for our various theories. Especially since some things have been cleared up! Also, it lends a bit of truth to a particular theory revolving around Rogles, Reiko, and that duplicate Valis sword she wields... | |

Valis I PCE definitely has some interesting details! Don't forget Valis IV as well, it was never translated into English It might be more difficult to hack & trasnlate these Valis I & IV PCE, but it's not difficult to write down the translation in text files (by one of the Japanese members here ) - HeromanX wrote:

I will try to finish the game soon and see what I can find out Hope Valis77 provides us LP for this It will be pretty useful

True. The movements are really glitchy and annoying, it's not fun to play as a game. As they've already said, everything about the game is excellent (story, music, visuals, sprites, etc) except the gameplay I've just completed the game, and it's really nice game... and lots of things are revealed (the info are surprising).. - Spoiler:
Note: What I will mention now are according to X68000 version.. --------- - There is nothing mentioned as Rogles and Megas are brothers in this game! so they're non-relatives here - Reiko was revived by Valia So she supposed to be alive in Valis 3 and Valis 4, and I mean alive not as a soul! - Gaias is the last general of Rogles's forces in this game. while in the other Valis II Turbo Duo version, Gillan was Rogles's last general - Heizen is the only general of Megas's forces, plus Dalis the advisor. In the other Valis II Turbo Duo version, Megas's has 3 main generals: Heizen, Gaias(the giant blue guy), and Toe (The pink guy) <---- Don't get confused: there are 2 generals named Gaias, one on Rogles's side that appears in the X68000 version, and the other Gaias is on Megas's side in the Turbo Duo and Syd version - In this version, Megas is not killed in the end, although Yuko's mission is to kill Megas!? His return is still possible! - In the Turbo Duo, Megas was very fair and very kind (but still uses evil plan, just like Glames) and fights because he was betrayed by his family. In X68000, Megas is very evil and is fighting to take over everything! - And most surprising is this: according to this version X68000, after Valia's death, Valna rules Vanity/Dreamland as Valia's daughter. But, Yuko and Valna are not sisters here, but Warrior and Princess! (believe it or not, even in Valis 3 and 4, nothing was mentioned as they are twin sisters, was there any? ) --------- However, Valis 3 and 4 were continued based on the Turbo Duo story, the clues are these screenshots: In Valis 3 (top-left), they are showing in the pinky armor (top-right), which she wears in the Turbo Duo version only.. while in the X68000 she wears the Hyper Suit armor without horn-like metal (Bottom images) In Valis 4, when Yuko shows/tells Lena about her past, they display images from the Turbo Duo version, and displays Yuko with same that pinky armor So if they based Valis 3 and 4 on the Turbo Duo version story, this makes Yuko and Valna sisters, and Rogles and Megas brothers in Valis 3 and 4 but also means that Reiko is dead and exist only as a soul
Valis I (Genesis/PCE) and II (X68000) have really really the best storylines! Valis 3 & 4 are still good, but not as good as I and II After playing this version, I feel really really sad that such great game and story was never remake with high graphics, better voice-acting, etc.. (Valis X is a failure remake! but we still didn't check Valis I and II the mobile games.. so... I wonder.. ) If anyone finishes the X68K version, plz add your notes here

| Just in a general retrospective, I think the series really plays well into developing the characters, despite all the inconsistencies. My thoughts are that canonically, they made nearly every antagonist somehow admirable in the quality that they could've been considered more an anti-hero - killing for the greater good or for the benefit of many instead of their own petty squabbles. There are some obvious exceptions, such as Rogles and Gallagher, but more or less, they seem to have other motives to fight for. Megas for vengeance on the account of betrayal, Glames and his generals in vain effort to save their people from being consumed by a void (some may assume it's a black hole). This motive extends to their subordinates as well, meaning Cham's apparent friendliness doesn't seem so out of place when considering her origins. In a way, it's kind of sad to see these characters killed by their honorable ambitions. I haven't really played the x68k version yet (I've been doing things on Cloud Nine instead), but suffice to say, it sounds like the game took some liberties, much like most Valis games do (by that, I mean there's all sorts of inconsistencies. *rolls eyes*). Thanks for the report, Reiko. | |

When you are talking about the "MSX" version of Valis 2, don't you really mean the PCE CD/Turbo Duo version of the game? I mean, the MSX2 version of Valis 2 (which I played) is virtually the same as the X68K versions, except the MSX2 version didn't have as good graphics nor the voice acting that the X68K had. I just thought to point that out. Besides, there was no Valis 3 or Valis 4 on the MSX/MSX2. Valis 3 was only on the PCE CD/Turbo Duo and Mega Drive/Genesis while Valis 4 was on the PCE CD and Super Famicom/SNES. ^^

| EYOWZA!! That sure brings new angles to light! Scratch the ghost Reiko idea I had for my fanfic, I'll follow this story arch! Also, I'll have to ask Shadow Blade something real quick, as there is one plot idea I've been going over in my head for a bit, and I think I have the solution. |

| Just to clarify, the order goes like this. First they made the "old" Valis I games for MSX and Famicom. Then they made Valis II for MSX. Shortly after that it was ported to the X68000 with improved sound and graphics, but basically the same game, same gameplay, same cutscenes etc. At some point after this a game called Valis II was made for PCE CD and Turbo CD, but it's a totally different game which is only vaguely connected to the "old" Valis II. The story is kind of the same but not as good. The levels and graphics are totally totally different. After that Valis III was made for PCE CD and then Valis IV. At some point Valis Visual Collection was released which just has the cutscenes, bah. Finally they remade Valis I for PCE CD and Mega Drive. I think the story for this game is actually more based on the "old" Valis II than the "old" Valis I games, unless there is another Valis I game I don't know about.
Just forget about Valis II on PCE, it's not worth it.
I forgot to mention Super Valis IV for SNES. It kind of sucks. I wouldn't bother with it either.

| Seeing as the PC Valis II versions (MSX, NEC PC-88/98, X68k) and the Console Valis II versions (PC Engine, MegaDrive) differ in terms of storyline, which one could be considered canon? From what EvilReiko has found, the storylines of both games are differ in more than just minor detail. One suggests the fact that Reiko is indeed alive, while the other gives Rogles and Megas a common bloodline. But since almost none of the key characters of the first two Valis games appear in the last two, either could be-
...wait a second. Now that I think about it...
Valis III (for the Genesis anyway) explicitly states in it's introduction that Yuko and Valna are twins, brought to light by Valia's passing words. Now, if EvilReiko is past the part that Valia dies (Oh, BTW spoilers xD), and this "fact" hasn't been stated, then the X68k, and more than likely the other PC adaptions, don't follow the same storyline as Valis III. Furthermore, Reiko appearing to Yuko in spirit (again, based on the Genesis version), suggests that Reiko is still dead. With this in mind, I'm guessing that the canon for the console games and the PC games are actually rather different.
Now, which one would be considered official canon, then?

| Man I wish I could have played Valis II and Valis IV (PC or Turbo Graph CD version, I only have the snes version of Valis IV but it's still a good game. I even found a kink in Gallagher's resistance to shot attacks - Spoiler:
shot him when jumps then leaps down fast at you, it's the only time he's weak to a shot attack, however it's only a split second open window and you may get hit in return.

| Things mentioned in Valis III intro about Valis II are stable, that's for sure which are: - is new emperor who conquered Vanity after - was killed by - is twin sister of , and is 's real mother - successfully defeated The rest of info about Valis II are instable, like: - & are brothers? - is spirit only, or she's revived!? I believe Valis II X68k version is the most correct version - ZeLoz (akaBill) wrote:

As you mentioned dear friend, appears as spirit only in Valis III Genesis version, but she doesn't appear in Valis III turbo duo version, which means this is instable info

| The teams which made Valis 2 differ. Valis 2 is a game which is different since it made the project for PC games, and for turbo duos at the period. However,Valis 2 of the graphic design used for the game is the same respectively. Valis 2 of PC game is not related to the story of Valis 3 and Valis 4. With the PC version, megas is not a brother of Rogles.
