Raining crabby doom down from the sky!

Hey there, new to the board. I've always been a fan of the Valis series since I first read a review for part 3 (Genesis version) in an issue of Gamepro. The reviewer, Dr. Dave (who would later go on to work at Capcom and create DeeJay for Super Street Fighter 2... and later go on to work at Namco and create WeaponLord) gave the game a perfect score. It was the first game ever to receive a perfect score since Gamepro had begun using its rating system. I rented the game based on that review and I've been hooked on the entire series ever since.

Every now and then Valis just pops into my head and I'll go looking for something Valis-related on the web. This last time, I encountered the dreaded Valis X. I'm only 4 years late to the rage fest, but it's all new to me. I can't believe Telenet would sink so low, even as a last ditch effort to save itself from financial ruin, as to whore out its own IPs. It'd be like if Nintendo were in dire straights and officially sanctioned Metroid porn. Suddenly "Zero Suit Samus" takes on a whole new meaning and metroids everywhere would have tentacles. Just... no. They should've gone the route of SquareSoft back in the day when they faced bankruptcy. Instead of resorting to porn, they poured all their last reserves into making "Final Fantasy" and we all know how that turned out.

It's fitting that Valis X was the final nail in the coffin for Telenet. Anyway, that's the rant that brought me here. I would have been more upset if it weren't for the news that Sunsoft bought the entire Telenet library and the odds of Valis, the proper Valis, being offered as downloadable content on all the major platforms are very high. And then... who knows where it'll go from there. Megaman, Bionic Commando, Sonic, and even Mario are all enjoying renewed life in the world of 2D and downloadable content. I can't imagine Valis wouldn't be successful as well.

About the name: long story short, Mako refers to the mako energy from Final Fantasy 7 that is condensed into materia. Crab is just because I like crabs. I think they're cute. Except those deep sea crab spiders with hair all over their legs. Those things are creepy! They look more like spiders than crabs, and I absolutely hate spiders. I was playing FF7 one day and thought to myself, wouldn't it be cool if I had a crab materia and could summon a crab monster? And then I thought, no, what if the crab summon was made of pure mako energy! It'd be crazy! And that's how that came about.

Also, I like Rampage the king crab from Beast Wars and the GD-42 crab mech from Bubblegum Crisis. They probably had a hand in my love of crabs. But from the cartoon origins of my love of crabs, I found a fondness for the actual animals. Every time I watch Deadliest Catch on Discovery, I wait for someone to get pinched! It's happened and it's always funny, but not too often an event.

So anyway that's me. 30-year-old male gamer from the old school. How's it going?

Three is very good (in fact it was my first Valis game anyway). However, 2 is probably my most fave (both the Turbo Grafix CD and X68K versions).

Never had a Turbograx, so I've never had the chance to play part 2. Just Syd of Valis, and that... doesn't quite count. Sunsoft needs to hurry up and get them all available for download!
