VALIS IS STILL ALIVE EVEN AFTER THE OFFICIAL HENTAI ASSAULT!

I'd like to include in the petition a "Call to Arms" so-to-speak of the original developers, writers, artists, and musicians/composers of the Valis series to enter a development contract with SunSoft or to at least assist any new team of developers with (art, music, character, story, etc.) direction. This way any new game for Valis (or even remade versions) can become fully canonized with how the developers originally intended (recall that Telenet was openly boycotted by the livid original character designer after he learned of Valis X's development). We could possibly also petition for Yuuko's original seiyu, Sumi Shimamoto, to reprise her role. Sumi's still a pretty involved VA, even at the age of 57.

I know I found another site a long time ago that listed everyone ever involved with official Valis projects, but I'm having troubles locating it. It was a very plain site - black and white, basic web formatting - and was in English. If anyone can recall that site and perhaps link to it, I could *possibly* update it to include those names that are not included in the original petition (which I'll be making and linking to shortly).

Edit: Upon looking at my choices to host an online petition, Change.org is the best option we have. However, the problem is that it requires us to have a valid email to send all the signatures to (I'm gonna feel bad for whoever at SunSoft JP will have to deal with those emails). Instead of just picking a random email to submit (since that's a VERY bad idea when you're trying to convince a company of something, particularly of a venture that it has receded from twice), I'd like to find out the proper email address to send those signatures to. It might take a while, but I have a few Japanese friends who may be able to lend some help. Meanwhile, it'd be best if we could gather up all the information we can about who was involved in what Valis projects and what roles they played.

Also, we need to define SPECIFICALLY what we want: a reintroduction (meaning a canonized Valis, Valis II, Valis III, and Valis IV with MUCH more accurate translation work) or a completely new addition to the series (ala Valis V, or perhaps a spin-off explaining Leethus, etc.). We shouldn't be too greedy and ask for everything all at once, but I think if anything is going to convince SunSoft to try again in the US, it would be Valis and its fan-base. It's THE BIGGEST title from Telenet's library, and it seems to be such a waste to have all those rights and not use them here in the US (and internationally, really) where they actually have really strong cult followings. Particularly Valis because let's face it - us fans would gobble up ANYTHING that wasn't hentai-related, after our fandoms were scarred with the entry that doesn't exist. They could even charge $100 US by throwing in some promo material in a Limited Edition package and we'd eat it up in a heartbeat, breaking our wallets or not. Lol So suffice to say, I think it's time the Valis fans united and spoke up to SunSoft about how we feel about the series here in the US.

That, and I think SunSoft just needs to dump tons of money into advertising. The whole reason any of these games are "cult" and not "mainstream", or even just more popular, is because they weren't well advertised. There are ways to advertise a game for relatively cheap, especially with inside connections these days. That would be a problem we'd have to propose solutions for as well, and as long as they have a rep who speaks decent English, I'd be able to assist with that for free.

Ultimately, at the end of this post, it's time we get off our butts and tinkering around with the idle thought and just take some action. Show that our community isn't just a collective of what once was, but of what will always be.

Heh. That pixiv artist has a ton of great stuff, and not just Valis, either- also a good chunk of Guardian Legend fanart, which is almost as hard to come across, maybe eve a bit more so. I'll be putting more from there on in the next few days, I think. one thing I have noticed is that most Valis II fanart on the Japan end is of the Sharp/PC-88/MSX2 version- perhaps they like the idea of Reiko being the Zero to Yuko's megaman.

Also: Perhaps if it were Valisgrisser?

I just skimmed most of the article for now since it's kinda late and I don't have the attention span for it tonight, but I do agree that Valis X had the best-quality artwork in the entire franchise. Well, one look through shows that it's actually some manner of press release by Telenet Japan- Judging by the fact that the cover talks about the then-new FM Towns means that this is probably from late 1988-early 1989. While I don't know much Japanese, the fact that this is Vol. 1 plus the prevalence of certain words makes me believe that this is about new and upcoming releases, as it has gameplay videos from what was then an upcoming port of Death Bringer for the Sharp X68000.

Also, Wolfteam vs. Telenet blindfolded speed-eating contest.

There's actually a second part to the video http://www.nicozon.net/watch/sm4265998 , which takes inside a conference room where the art director is going over the concept sketches for Valis II with some other members of the art staff- one can even spot an early head-and-shoulders shot of Zaluga, as well as a fairly complete piece of the Vecanta cannon. The rest is generally office antics and interviews, so no help from me there.
