| From Insert Credit- http://www.insertcredit.com/ - Quote :
- Tokei News reports that Telenet Japan, once famous for games such as Valis and Arcus has closed down after 24 years in the business. Apparently selling their game properties to hentai game makers wasn't enough to keep the company going.
They had been focusing on the pachinko business recently and recorded 452 million yen in sales last year in March but their profits were bad and they continued to be in constant debt. Strategies such as selling their gaming properties and selling their stock holdings in order to rebuild the company's financial ability reached a limit and they could no longer keep the company going.
<Brandon's note:> As of the closing date, only 18 people were still working for Telnet, which is pretty sad, considering its heyday. There's some vague stuff in here too, like talk of a failed U.S. subsidiary game center, which I can't even imagine anyone thinking was a good idea. I wonder who, if anyone, will buy the rights to their legacy titles? They had lots of good games in the 80s and 90s...I guess 3D killed them. That and Wolf Team going away, and their SFC RPGs not really taking off. They mention that they worked on a lot of the Tales games in their company profile. Unfortunately their history is updated only to 2001, but they did make Angel Golf and some idol mahjong games after that. Even more curious, they don't list Valis or Arcus as franchises they own - did they sell the rights completely? That would be quite distressing. The last game in the old style I've seen evidence of from them is Valis for mobile remake, but that may have been developed by Bandai. Must've been a depressing last few days around the offices, with all your licenses gone, and mountains of debt.
<Recap's note:> Telenet indeed 'worked' on many 'Tales of' games, since they co-owned Tales Team along with Namco till not too long ago. Let's not forget that Tales Team was formed up from some ex Wolf Team staff. And being honest, Telenet never released a truly remarkable quality title which wasn't signed by Wolf Team. It was the dissolution of this developer what actually put an end to Telenet's relevance as a video-game company. So, now we know that Valis X was a desperate measure Telenet took just to stay alive... And it's interesting to see that they don't own the Valis property. I wonder who does? I hope it's not the H Game company. And I wonder it this will affect the release of the next Valis manga? I hope Valis ends up in the hands of someone who'll treat it well.

| this is just so funny. they didn't know what to do, so, they make Valis X just to get quick-and-lots of money.. stupid people I think.. the mobile game is very well-designed, but they put alot of limitations to it, like: only japanese-mobiles can play this game <--- that itself is just a big limitation and the most funny, since the 90s, Telenet has been focusing on producing stupid silly games, and they never realized they what they are producing is stupid, 'til they were already finished off <--- at that time, they returned again to produce something for Valis and.. I disagree about what Brandon said about 3D against Telenet. Because, Telenet produced alot of 3D games (but those 3D games were also stupid games, like golf <--- who plays such games ) anyway, if no on has the right to own Valis.... does this mean I can produce my anime of Valis without copyright issues | |

I would say that Kill Time currently owns Valis. The Valis page on Comic Valkyrie's site has "copyright 2006 Kill Time Communications" printed on the Valis header image. (It says "<something> Nihon Telenet" underneath "ZOL" at the bottom left, but no copyright markings) And they are right in the middle of using that property, with Valis' run in Comic Valkyrie and the new compilation book. Another interesting thing is that the Valis X page on Eants' site has Valis X listed as "(C)TERENET JAPAN 2006/eants inc 2006" where Arcus X is "(C)TELENET JAPAN 2007/eants Inc. 2007". I wonder if the spelling differences are intentional? I sure hope Eants doesn't own any of Valis, Kill Time's been treating it well so far. Or, maybe Telent sold it to a holdings company or something, and Kill Time's been licensing it from them? We may never know. It'd be awesome if Falcom got the rights to Valis. They'd do it right! Interesting, according to their website, (still up!) Telenet Japan Co. LTD was established on October 27, 1958. I wonder what they did back then?

I think the second option is the right one.... surely someone else owns Valis, and Kill Time is paying a bit to publish their comic... is there a way we can check this? Imagine we could buy Valis!!! from my point of view, the fact Telenet closed, is perfect... Now we can expect from someone else a good Valis game!!! We have Hope again! _________________ - Spoiler:

if they have been producing lately such games, that's no-wondering why Telenet closed such games will never have a lot of fans, they were just made to earn easy money by doing something cheap and quick sell.... in this case, it is better for Valis that Telenet closed... could you imagine more sequels of Valis Cross!? _________________ - Spoiler:

if they have been producing lately such games, that's no-wondering why Telenet closed Well, for starters, that golf game looks like a poor man's version of Hot Shot's Golf, which, I'll admit, I played the hell out of on the PSX (and I'm by no means a golf fan nor will I ever be). As for that Mahjong game, I dunno, I thought adding the pics of Asian women seemed like such a sell out thing to do. For shame, Telenet!

For shame, Telenet! let me summerize what you want to say about Telenet in one word: " Idiots" you know, now I think of it, it's really really really stupid for Telenet to produce Valis X just for some quick money. it's like... it's like.. you are in debt and have alot to pay, but you can't pay all the money.. so, you ask your wife to be a b**** in hotels to get some money for this big amont of debt that's what happen between Telenet and Valis

| Actuallynintento was1880's well i could be wrong. WELL! WELL! WELL! Telenet died as well as Working Designs. That serves them right for trying to make a hentai game of valis instead of continuing the series. Valis was there Telenets HOLY GRAIL....i think! It spawned of through many consoles regardless of the mediocre ports of the original BTW i love them all now not ValisX which was thier Achilles Heel. Ruining the game like that. I can understand the fanpic version. But a game? Telenet just got sloppy whth their creativity. See if only they responded to my e-mail. *punches telenet in the face* *THWAK* *Peirce their eyes* YOU HAVE SINNED AGAINST YOUR FANS AND YOU MUST BE PURGED!...........................OOOOOPPS! they are dead! .....We had high hopes for this company it hurts people who love this series as a child or the once who was not born. I mean i was hoping they would make the DS version of the mobile phone with better graphics. ARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!! *punches the ground* I need to calm down! im tiredi'll rant later | |

that's what happen between Telenet and Valis I agree!!! they could have accepted death instead of betraying their creations or sell their ladies as wh*res...!!!!! they could have died like Warriors... but they chose death for money... It's Telenet the ones who became b****s... it was them who sold their bodies!!! it was them who were the ones raped!!!! Valis Ladies.... they are True Warriors. - VALNA wrote:

Look at the bright side... possibly they would continued producing h-games... even for mobiles... I think it's much better they sold the rights to someone who cares for them... also, there's always the chance of someone cracking the game... and allow us to play it!!! _________________ - Spoiler:

The f-tard who came up with the idea in the first place of turning a most popular franchise they have into a pile of feces...I just hope that the person never get a job in other video gaming company...I just hope that either people from Riot or anyone who have suffered from Telenet's crap should revive the franchise and give the licence to a trustworthy company...

| @evilReiko: Sounds like a whole lotta V2 going down. That's the only time I cn remember Reiko trying to save Yuko. XD And it wouldn't surprise me if that's that's going on since most manga aren't more than maybe 10-15 volumes long. Valis has a lot, though, so I'm wondering if it'll rival DBZ, Inuyasha, or Naruto in size. Perhaps bigger if they're still on V1 on Vol. 11. @topic: I tend to differentiate New Telenet (post-Wolf Team) and Old Telenet (in-Wolf Team) and I'm disappointed in New Telenet. Good riddance to those ignorant, self-centered bastards with no sense of shame. However, for Old Telenet, I'll hunt down any games left and right, good or bad, produced and/or released by them or one of the subsidiaries (like Renovation). I've already got a few, such as Beast Wrestler and Arrow Flash, but I'm still hunting more. That said, Wolf Team, however they may be together and/or scattered today, will always live on and produce high-quality games. | |

I'm really hoping that one day some company will come along and take the valis franchise and make a fantastic sequel to Valis. Just like what happen to Contra with WayForward.
